gcniFrom the launch of the 2030 Agenda (September 2015) until now, the Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs) have become a guide for businesses in countries around the world. Globally, in the political, economic and social spheres, the reaction of leaders to new challenges and priorities for sustainable development as set out by the United Nations has been impressive. A new awareness has gradually spread leading to new strategies, policies and initiatives in support of peace and world prosperity and the protection of the planet.

A recent study by Accenture and the UN Global Compact records that the 2030 global goals are in first place on the agendas of CEOs and executive directors. In fact 87% of respondents said that the new sustainable development goals have or will have an impact on their strategies and organizational priorities.

Global leaders have confirmed their commitment to the 10 global goals at conferences, in reports and public statements and, more importantly, through their business activities developed both individually and in partnerships.

In order to both support the actors of sustainable development in following the Agenda for Sustainable Development and to bridge the gap in the implementation of the SDGs, the UN Global Compact has launched a portfolio of Action Platforms. These platforms, which are based on the 10 Principles of the Global Compact and which have been created for groups of 20-40 participants, are oriented towards the involvement of firms, industry experts, civil society, governments and UN partners. By participating in the platforms, subjects with different backgrounds will bring together their knowledge and experiences in order to find solutions to complex and interconnected issues, and to explore new market and innovation opportunities related to achieving the global goals.

The nine platforms, which will be officially presented at Making Global Goals Local Business – India an event scheduled for 26th and 27th April 2017 in New Delhi, focuson each of the following topics:

  • The Blueprint for SDG Leadership
  • Reporting on the SDGs
  • Financial Innovation for the SDGs
  • Breakthrough Innovation
  • Pathways to Low-Carbon & Resilient Development
  • Health is Everybody’s Business
  • Business for Inclusion
  • Business Action for Humanitarian Needs
  • Decent Work in Global Supply Chains
