The Global Compact Network Italy (GCNI) was established in 2002 to contribute to the development in Italy of the "Global Compact", a project designed to promote the culture of corporate citizenship launched, in 1999, by the then Secretary-General of the United Nations Kofi Annan.

Considering this objective, the Network operates as an information platform, giving support and coordination to Italian companies and organizations which resolve to share, support and employ a whole range of universal principles in matters of human rights, labour, environment and the fight against corruption, thereby contributing to the accomplishment of "a more wide-ranging and sustainable global economy".

In June 2013, the GCNI became legally established as the Global Compact Network Italy Foundation.

Currently, 46 organizations adhere to the Foundation as founders or participants.

In March five new companies with a CSR/sustainability profile already characterised by specific goals related to their business sector: Banca Nazionale del Lavoro (as “Founding Member”), than Autogrill Group, Ledvance SpA, San Servolo Servizi Metropolitani di Venezia and Tridente Immobiliare (as “Participants”) became part of the Global Compact Network Italy.

From the launch of the 2030 Agenda (September 2015) until now, the Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs) have become a guide for businesses in countries around the world. Globally, in the political, economic and social spheres, the reaction of leaders to new challenges and priorities for sustainable development as set out by the United Nations has been impressive. A new awareness has gradually spread leading to new strategies, policies and initiatives in support of peace and world prosperity and the protection of the planet.

In late April two important events promoted by the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) will be held in New Delhi in India as international-scale initiatives in support of the Global Goals 2030 and of the role of Local Networks within the governance system UNGC.

The Collection of "experiences and business practices related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)" is taking shape. The collaboration that was initiated with the first 10 companies that will be the key actors in the collection already profiles an interesting opportunity for future readers to explore from the review processes of strategy and business in order to integrate SDGs at corporate level, to the projects started to concretize specific objectives.

The Italian CSR Manager Network promoted the EUROPEAN ASSOCIATION OF SUSTAINABILITY PROFESSIONALS (EASP), a network of CSR practitioners from European organizations, with the aim to share each other's experience for the benefit of those who are interested in promoting sustainability as a development factor.


SMEs Reporting Coaching Programme

On 6th April the coaching programme promoted by the Global Compact Network Italy Foundation (GCNI Foundation) will be launched to support small and medium-sized enterprises to support small and medium-sized enterprises that are engaged in, or intend to be, in reporting on sustainability processes. This initiative aims to provide all the knowledge and skills necessary for the production of a corporate sustainability reporting document that meets the basic criteria of the UN Global Compact Communication on Progress.


UNGC reporting tools: Communications on Progress

The first of the Series of seminars on UNGC reporting tools will be held in web mode on 12th April from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. The Webinar will focus on: - the technical aspects of the production process of the Communication on progress – COP; - the selection and organization of the reporting document content; - and how to transmit the document to the UN Global Compact Office.


Business&SDGs High Level Meeting: the chiefs of Italian firms committed to the global goals will meet G. Kell, former Executive Director of the Global Compact

On 18th May the second edition of the Business&SDGs High Level Meeting will be held in Milan. It is promoted by the Global Compact Network Italy Foundation in order to facilitate a discussion at the highest level, within the business sector about strategies and policies that support the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2030. The meeting, hosted by Edison in Foro Buonaparte 31, will begin at 10.30 a.m. and end at 1.30 p.m..
