Francesca Martucci, born in 1988, Sustainability Specialist at Pirelli & C., is the first Italian Pioneer for the SDGs.
Global Compact Network Italy has identified in the Young Business Leader - active in the Auto & Parts sector - the national winner of the SDGs Pioneer Italy 2019 award. The award aims to promote those young business professionals who have distinguished themselves by an extraordinary commitment to the advancement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“Francesca Martucci's work is part of the broader strategic and action plan on sustainability carried out by Pirelli, member of the UN Global Compact since 2004 and “Founder” of the Italian Network. The candidacy presented by the company demonstrates how a young resource can significantly contribute to the success of an organization on crucial and strategic issues” said Marco FREY - President of Global Compact Network Italy, commenting on the awarding of the title. He added: “With her daily efforts and commitment, the first Italian SDGs Pioneer has certainly inspired other people, both inside and outside the company. Also for this reason we have chosen to acknowledge her work through the competition.”
As the winner of the national round, Francesca Martucci will participate in the global competition where she will challenge other candidates to try winning the title of UN Global Compact SDGs Pioneer 2019. Global winners will be announced at the United Nations General Assembly in New York in September.
“We are excited to support and value the young professionals’ efforts to find innovative solutions to today's global challenges. Being a leader in the 2030 era means working concretely for change, choosing to create the future rather than waiting for it to happen while sitting still.” says Lise KINGO, CEO and Executive Director of the United Nations Global Compact.
The UNGC SDGs Pioneers competition is part of the “Making Global Goals Local Business” campaign launched globally by Global Compact in 2015, following the adoption by the United Nations of 17 SDGs for the year 2030. The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness of sustainable development among all economic, social and political stakeholders and to promote the greatest possible commitment to urgent challenges such as hunger, poverty and climate change.
