In November 2022, the UN Global Compact Network Italy published the English version of the Position Paper “Sustainable Supply Chain Management: responsibility and opportunity for businesses”. It has been produced by the Italian Network with the contribution of more than 30 Italian companies participating in the UN initiative and particularly committed to the issue. The purpose of this paper is to showcase and enhance the commitment of Italian companies to sustainable supply chain management, while highlighting the private sector’s responsibility and opportunity to engage all players across the supply chain. This paper discusses the theme in terms of three main pillars, namely: the reduction of Scope 3 emissions; the promotion and protection of human rights and decent work; and the circular management of negative externalities. The paper presents about 30 business best practices and various platforms and tools useful for supplier engagement.
