The United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) is a special initiative established by the UN Secretary-General with the aim of promoting a more inclusive and sustainable global economy, that respects human and labour rights, protects the environment and fights against corruption.

The initiative has to main goals: to urge companies to align their operations and strategies with its Ten Principles and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); and to promote and facilitate dialogue and cooperation among key stakeholders on sustainability issues.

There are currently more than 20,000 companies and non-business organizations participating in the UN Global Compact. The large and heterogeneous composition of the initiative makes possible the activation within it of multi-stakeholder partnerships and collective action in pursuit of common or shared goals.
