What role can the private sector play in contributing to social progress? How Italian companies are integrating social needs in the elaboration of their strategies, investments, programmes and actions? How many of them have recognized the “creating shared value” approach as an opportunity to reconcile objectives of growth and competitiveness with the creation of social value?

Answers to these and other questions have been looked for by the research “Italian companies and social challenges: the case of Shared Value in Italy”, held by SCS Consulting and ALTIS with the collaboration of the Shared Value Initiative. The research, the first to explore this matter in the Italian context, contributes to the international and national debate on the link between business and society. The aim of the research is to investigate how Italian companies are taking an active role in advancing the economic and social progress of the Country and are re-thinking their business models towards an increasing convergence between industrial objectives and contribution to the social, economic, environmental context.

On 5th October 2016, in Milan, the authors will present the main evidences from the research during the Salone della CSR e dell’Innovazione Sociale 2016. A panel of the companies who contributed to the study will follow the presentation, sharing their experiences and discussing opportunities and challenges posed by this new vision of the (positive) link between business and society.
